LIVE A DIFFERENT EXPERIENCE IN THE CHILDREN´S FOREST
There is a magical place in the Peruvian Amazon where, in spite of the threats posed by mining, hunting and illegal tree-felling, hope that the world can improve still exists. This ANIA´s (Association for Children and their Environment) initiative is called Children’s Forest (BoNi) and is a natural area under the care of children who, alongside their families, co-exist with nature, appreciating and celebrating it.
Geography and population
The Children’s Forest of the community of Boca Amigo, is located in the middle basin of the Madre de Dios River in the Peruvian Amazon, 10 minutes from the mouth of the river Los Amigos, in the department of Madre de Dios.
Its weather is warm and humid, with an average annual temperature between 24 and 26ºC and a relative humidity between 75% and 78%. The cold winds from the south appears three times a year, between the months of may and september, when the temperature can drop until 8°C. The rainy season happens between the months of december and march.
In the 100 hectares of the Children’s Forest of Boca Amigo, you will find, with the help and guidance of the children, a magical forest with a lake that homes several bird, insect, reptile and mammal species.
Ten families live in the community; you will be able to share activities with them such as fishing, agriculture, sport and art activities, creation of seed based handcrafts, trekking in the forest and even refreshing baths in the lake. You will also be able to learn a bit more about the local extraction of gold and the difficulties that the community of Boca Amigo has to face.
